Tony Valentino

Tony Valentino is an American guitarist and songwriter best known as a founding member of the 1960s rock band The Standells, a key figure in the garage rock genre. Born on February 24, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, Valentino’s guitar work and songwriting contributed significantly to the band's distinctive sound, characterized by raw energy and catchy hooks. The Standells are most famous for their hit single "Dirty Water," which reached the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966 and has since become an anthem of Boston sports culture. Other notable tracks include "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White" and "Try It." The band’s music embodied the rebellious spirit of the 1960s, influencing countless garage rock, punk, and alternative artists. Valentino's guitar style, blending rock, rhythm and blues, and surf music elements, left a lasting impact on the development of garage rock and its revival in later decades.
